Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the Russian army has damaged 1,663 medical facilities and completely destroyed another 222.
This is reported by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
The agency noted that the greatest losses were incurred by medical institutions in the Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
“It is currently impossible to obtain comprehensive information on the degree of destruction of hospitals in the temporarily occupied territories,” the Ministry of Health of Ukraine notes.
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine emphasizes that restoration of damaged medical infrastructure and reconstruction of hospitals is currently underway throughout Ukraine in order to provide Ukrainians with the most necessary medical services.
To date, it has been possible to fully restore 532 medical facilities and another 353 – partially.
Most of the facilities were restored in the Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions.
We are talking about medical facilities that were freed from the occupation, as well as those that suffered minor damage: broken windows, destroyed roofs, damaged facades, etc. Restoration work will continue.
Over 14 billion dollars will be needed to restore the Ukrainian medical system over the next 10 years, as Russia has not only destroyed hospitals, but is also trying to destroy “emergency” centers, pharmacies, and export equipment and medicines.
