Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, 91 Ukrainian journalists have died as a result of hostilities. Another 30 representatives of mass media are in Russian captivity.
This is stated in the message of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine and the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.
According to the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine and the International Federation of Journalists, 66 of the dead are those who mobilized to the Defense Forces of Ukraine and died as a result of hostilities.
16 media workers died while performing their professional duties. Another 6 media workers are civilian victims of the war.
Acting head of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, Rostislav Karandeev, said that 30 media persons are currently known to be in Russian captivity.
In addition, several hundred representatives of the profession protect Ukraine in various structures of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine published a list of dead journalists. Among them are those who died on the territory of Luhansk region:
Leclerc-Imhoff Frédéric, a French journalist for the BFMTV channel, died from a shrapnel wound on May 30, 2022 as a result of Russian shelling while covering the evacuation of civilians from the city of Severodonetsk (Luhansk region).
Yuriy Oliynyk, Ukrainian cameraman and photographer of Channel 24, a military serviceman, died on March 23, 2022 in the battles near Popasnaya, Luhansk region.
Evgeny Starynets, a Ukrainian media personality, manager of the “Suspilne Cherkasy” television and radio company, founder of “Suspilny” in Cherkasy region, died on April 30, 2022 in the battle for Popasna.
Derech Vitaly, Ukrainian journalist, correspondent of Ternopil publications, junior sergeant, commander of the anti-tank division of the 1st OBrSpp named after Ivan Bohun of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, died on May 28, 2022, near the city of Popasna, Luhansk region, as a result of an airstrike.
Oleksiy Chubashev, Ukrainian journalist, war correspondent, author and presenter of the program for the military “Rekrut.UA”, former director of Armiya FM, died at the front on June 10, 2022 during the defense of Severodonetsk.
Vladyslav Dzikovsky, system administrator of the “Detector Media” publication, military serviceman, senior machine gunner of an armored car, went missing between Kreminna and Serebryanka on December 13, 2022. At the beginning of April 2023, it became known that he died.
Ivan Kuzminsky, researcher of ancient Ukrainian music, candidate of sciences, director of the children’s TV channel “Malyatko TV”, military serviceman, died on May 17, 2023 in a battle near the settlement of Dibrova in the Luhansk region.
Kostyantyn Hnitetskyi, TV operator of “Suspilny” from the city of Rivne, a soldier of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, died as a result of mortar fire on July 16, 2023, near Dibrova, Luhansk region.
Samchuk Oles, a graduate of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Journalism of Kyiv National University named after T. Shevchenko was originally from the Rivne region, was mobilized in the Armed Forces of Ukraine immediately after graduation in 2023, died during a combat mission on March 11, 2024 near Kreminnaya.
