Athletics arena damaged in Sumy due to attack by “Shaheeds”

As a result of the night attack on April 21 by Russian drones in Sumy, the athletics arena suffered significant damage.

This sports complex is a key venue for holding competitions in various sports.

According to the head of the Sumy region futsal association, Yevhen Petrakov, due to the destruction, holding any tournaments in the arena is currently impossible. The building has damaged walls, doors, running tracks and sports equipment. Specialists are to check the condition of the roof and find out whether the supporting structures of the facility have been damaged.

Previously, this arena hosted large-scale national events, including the “Final Four” of the Ukrainian Futsal Cup, the Ukrainian Athletics Championships, archery, Ukrainian Judo Cups, Ukrainian handball teams played, etc.

Currently, an assessment of the damage is underway, after which experts will provide conclusions on the possibility of restoring the sports facility.
