Attacks on energy facilities of Ukraine. The strikes of the occupiers are coordinated by the Russian energy company Ukrenergo

Strikes by Russian forces on Ukraine’s energy system are coordinated by Russian energy engineers. They know her inside out.

Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, the head of the board of Ukrenergo, told about it.

“The attacks were planned and carried out not only by the Russian military, but also by Russian energy workers,” he said.

According to Kudrytskyi, Russian engineers knew Ukraine’s power grid “like the back of their hand,” because before the start of a full-scale invasion in February 2022, it was combined with the power systems of Russia and Belarus.

Ukrenergo says that now Ukrainian energy engineers better understand the Russian strategy and are taking measures aimed at minimizing the consequences of attacks.

On January 8, due to frosty weather, the shortage of electricity in Ukraine is increasing, the company warned of possible emergency shutdowns. Regions received electricity consumption limits valid from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Over the past three months, Ukraine’s energy system has suffered significant damage as a result of targeted massive missile and drone attacks by Russia. According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, the Russian invaders damaged about 50% of the Ukrainian energy system. The restoration of complex and large-scale damage to generation facilities and main networks requires significant resources and time.

The occupiers fired at one of the Ukrainian TPPs

On the evening of January 6, the Russian occupiers launched another attack on one of the thermal power plants of DTEK Energo. Earlier, it had already been attacked by terrorists.

This was reported by the press service of DTEK on January 8.

“As a result of the shelling, the equipment of the TPP was damaged. Immediately after the end of the attack, the energy companies began to promptly eliminate the consequences,” the message says.

The attack was the 25th for the company since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

This time, TPP workers were not injured. As DTEK added, only critically important workers remain on duty at enterprises during the war.

Crimes committed by Russians in Ukraine — the world is discussing ways of conducting investigations and prosecuting the guilty

Russia must appear before a special tribunal for war crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine. British politicians said so. Also, Great Britain is planning to hold an international meeting regarding the investigation of war crimes in Ukraine.

“The Russian armed forces must know that they cannot act with impunity, and we will support Ukraine until justice prevails. The international community must give the court its strongest support so that war criminals can be brought to justice for the atrocities we are all witnessing,” UK Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab said.

At the international meeting, participants will discuss how to help the Hague Tribunal gather information and share evidence of Russian war crimes committed in Ukraine. The International Criminal Court in The Hague began investigating war crimes committed by Russians and crimes against humanity in Ukraine in March last year.

“The reports and images of Russia’s illegal and unprovoked armed attack on Ukraine are horrific. It is absolutely clear to us: these crimes cannot go unpunished. During this timely meeting, we will continue to coordinate our actions with our partners to ensure the support of the ICC and the Ukrainian authorities,” said the Minister of Justice and Security of the Netherlands, Dylan Jeshilges-Zegerius.

The report of the chief prosecutor of the Hague Court, Karim Khan, will be announced at the scheduled meeting. It is devoted to the work of the court and the role of the international community in supporting its investigations. Earlier, he called on the international community to support and finance the Hague Court’s investigation into Ukraine.

“We need tools to do our job. We don’t have them yet,” says Khan.

Ministers will also discuss how to help victims and witnesses come forward. Back in October of last year, the UN declared that the sexual violence resorted to by the Russian occupiers in Ukraine is part of Russia’s “military strategy”.

“The meeting comes at a time when Russia is intensifying its campaign of terror against Ukraine, striking critical energy infrastructure and plunging people into a dark and icy winter. In the liberated areas of Ukraine, the prosecutor’s office continues to collect evidence of atrocities and sexual violence,” the press service of the British government said in a statement.

Pramila Patten, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflicts, said that according to the evidence collected, the age of the victims of sexual violence is from 4 to 82 years. She added that the victims are mostly women and girls, but Russians also rape men and boys.

“When women are held for days and raped, when they start raping little boys and men, when you see genital cuttings, when you hear women testifying about Russian soldiers carrying Viagra, this is clearly a military strategy,” Patten said. .

Ukrainian law enforcement officers have opened more than 50,000 cases under the article “Violation of the Laws and Customs of War.” Investigators established the names of 234 suspects. So far, 16 people have been convicted, seven of them in absentia.

“A significant number of crimes are committed in the occupied territories, where in principle we do not have physical access, but this in no way makes the documentation process impossible. A significant part of the suspects is not in our hands, but we understand that it is only a matter of time,” said a representative of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Yurii Belousov, in an interview with “Nastoyaschemu Vremnia”.

As of January 8, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine recorded 63,203 war crimes and almost 17,500 crimes against the national security of Ukraine.

German Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann said that the Hague International Tribunal will consider the case against Russian President Vladimir Putin not at all in a hypothetical perspective. He noted that the head of the Kremlin has already confessed to the direct commission of war crimes in Ukraine, without hiding from journalists and the world community.
