On the morning of October 19, Russian forces launched a ballistic missile strike on Irpin, in the Kyiv region. The attack resulted in several impacts, one of which struck the grounds of a large enterprise located in the city’s industrial zone. A massive fire broke out following the explosion, and the production facility itself sustained significant damage.
According to Acting chairman Anzhela Makeieva, the Russian attack caused not only destruction at the enterprise but also damage to nearby residential areas. The force of the powerful blast wave shattered windows in apartments within adjacent high-rise buildings.
There are also reports of casualties. Relevant authorities are currently assessing the full extent of the damage and gathering information on the condition of individuals who may have been near the impact site. City officials have pledged to provide necessary assistance to residents and employees of the enterprise who were affected by the strike.
Preliminary data indicates that Russian forces employed ballistic missiles. This type of weaponry poses a particular danger due to its high flight speed and the extremely limited time available to react once an air raid siren is sounded. The strike on Irpin triggered several explosions that were heard across various parts of the city.
The primary impact occurred in the industrial zone. A fire broke out on the premises of one of Irpin’s largest enterprises, and emergency responders are currently working to bring it under control. Fire and thick smoke are complicating the work of emergency services; consequently, specialists are taking measures to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent structures.
Damage has also been recorded in the residential sector. The blast wave shattered windows in high-rise apartment buildings, damaged window frames, and—according to preliminary information—may have caused further destruction to homes located near the industrial site.
The full extent of the damage is currently being assessed. Once initial emergency response operations are complete, specialists will inspect the buildings to evaluate their structural integrity and determine the specific repairs required. Particular attention is being paid to residential buildings where the blast wave damaged windows.
Emergency services, rescue teams, medical personnel, and city officials are currently on-site in Irpin. They are working to extinguish the fire, clear damaged structures, survey the surrounding area, and check for any additional threats to the public. Following the missile strike, the area may be cordoned off to ensure that bystanders do not interfere with the work of the specialists.
The impact extended beyond Irpin: in the Bucha district, 11 private homes, 6 vehicles, an industrial and warehouse facility, and an educational institution sustained damage, while windows were shattered in several apartment buildings. In the Vyshhorod district, a private home, 5 vehicles, and an infrastructure facility were also damaged.
