Before fleeing from the right bank of the region, the Russians stole a painting by a German artist from the Kherson museum

The Russians, before escaping from Kherson in early November 2022, stole from the collection of the Shovkunenko Kherson Regional Museum the painting by artist Herman Friedrich Louis Toussaint “Children at the Window”.

This was reported by the museum.

The painting “Children at the Window” was painted with oil paints on canvas in 1861 in Germany.

After the theft in November 2022, the whereabouts of the work remain unknown.

Hermann Friedrich Louis Toussaint is a German painter of the Dusseldorf School, who initially worked in the genre of historical painting, but later switched to the domestic genre. He is known for his depictions of children and family scenes.

The Russians themselves admitted the theft of 10,000 paintings from the museum in Kherson, but the museum administration announced its intention to return all the paintings.
