Belarus facilitated signal relay for Russian attacks on Western Ukraine
Recent Russian strikes on Ukraine’s western regions were facilitated from Belarusian territory, where signal repeaters were likely reactivated to support the guidance of Russian drones and missiles.
According to Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, although no major strike forces are currently being assembled directly along the border, Belarus continues to effectively assist the Russians.
“We see that Belarus has not stopped supporting the Russian Federation; even the air strikes targeting the Rivne, Volyn, and Lviv regions were effectively facilitated from Belarusian territory,” Demchenko emphasized.
He added that despite the absence of a ground threat from this direction, risks remain high due to the use of Belarusian territory as a technical base for guiding weapons systems.
Additionally, the spokesperson commented on border infrastructure operations amidst constant shelling. Due to the threat of strikes, border crossing operations are temporarily halted, and personnel and civilians are dispersed for safety reasons.
“In recent weeks, five border crossing points in the Odesa region have come under attack, with strikes hitting both the crossing point grounds and service areas. These include four crossings on the border with Moldova and one on the border with Romania,” he noted, adding that returning to normal operations can take anywhere from a few hours to several days.
