“Boys were beaten and put on twine.” The Ukrainian scout told about the capture in Taganrog

Ukrainian intelligence officer Oleksandr Nemkov, who participated in the air raid on Azovstal, spent 120 days in Russian captivity in Taganrog and lost 40 kg of weight. He told about the terrible torture by the Russian military, for example, in the buildings where the Ukrainian soldiers were kept, the first days were so cold that some prisoners woke up with cramps in their bodies.

In addition, in captivity, the Russians established cruel rules. For example, it was possible to walk only with closed eyes, look at the floor, and move only with the letter “r”. Moreover, the prisoners were not allowed to communicate with their cellmates.

“People came up and asked us to tell them about their coat of arms, then how many feathers the eagle has. We talked like that with the boys, I wonder if he himself knows how many feathers that eagle has or the colors of all this nonsense? I think not. Communication consisted only in putting pressure on people and breaking them, humiliating them. There was no other communication with them. Those who communicated normally did not linger there. And it was just a few hours, maybe a day, that’s all,” Nemkov shared his memories.

Nemkov said that in the morning the Russians checked the cells, threw everyone out of them, beat them and put them back.

“There was the same procedure at lunch. They beat someone how: with hands, feet, less often with batons. They stretched the boys, put them on the twine and everything else,” said the soldier.
