Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant has completely shut down after a massive attack on February 7 that lasted six hours. The city was left without heat and water, and the restoration of generation is uncertain.
After prolonged shelling by the Russians on February 7, the Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast has completely stopped its operation. The massive attack, which lasted six hours in a row, led to critical damage to the infrastructure, endangering the life support of the entire region. This was reported by Chairman Vasyl Andriyeshyn.
According to the Chairman, Russian troops attacked the city and the thermal power plant with Kalibr missiles and strike drones between 3:00 and 9:00 a.m. As a result of numerous hits, the facility suffered devastating destruction.
The damage as a result of the missile attacks is very serious. The station is now at zero. How it will continue, no one knows yet – the chairman reported.
Currently, energy experts cannot provide accurate forecasts for the restoration of generation. The shutdown of the station “to zero” means a complete cessation of electricity and heat production, which has already led to the collapse of utility networks in Burshtyn itself.
Due to the power outage and damage to the station’s nodes, the city has completely lost water supply and heating. Local authorities assure that they will try to restore the water supply within a few hours, but the issue of heat remains open. The restoration of heat supply will be possible only after a full clarification of the technical condition of the TPP and the implementation of priority repair work.
The most critical situation is in the private sector of Burshtyn, where the provision of heat and water depends on a direct connection with the TPP’s capacity. In multi-storey buildings, the situation is assessed as somewhat easier, but the city is still in a state of humanitarian challenge. Rescue and utility services are working in an intensified mode to stabilize the situation.
