Captured and Deceased Servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation

During 12 days of Russia’s undeclared and treacherous war against Ukraine, the enemy’s losses, since February 24, 2022, have exceeded 11,000 men. The number of soldiers and officers who surrendered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces is impressive. At the same time, the Russian leadership does not want the local population of the federation to know about battle casualties, so Ukraine has a problem with the bodies of dead Russians, and it is planned to create special camps fo r prisoners.

Captured pilot who bombed Kharkiv:

The Russian occupant was interrogated and given an opportunity to call home. National Guard soldiers caught a pilot of a downed Russian fighter jet in Kharkiv, who had been terrorizing the city and dropping bombs on it. During the interrogation, the detainee told about a person who gave orders to bomb peaceful cities. The video of the interrogation was published on Facebook by Artem Vitko, commander of the volunteer battalion of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine Luhansk-1. The detainee turned out to be a deputy commander of the aviation regiment stationed in Voronezh. According to his words, the orders to bomb the cities were allegedly given by Major General Makovetskyi. The occupant claims that the general sent coordinates for the bombing. The detainee also said that he personally had three combat sorties between Izium and Balakleia. One of the sorties took place on the night of March 7. When the occupant was asked whether he understood, given the blackout, that there might be civilians below, he replied that he was acting according to coordinates.

Russian troops lose their morale and surrender — Sunday Mirror

The former commander-in-chief of the British army, General Lord Dannatt, said that Russian officers “abandoned their soldiers… to save their skins” and accused Russia of “moral and military failure of the highest order”, the Sunday Mirror reported.

One of the Russian helicopters exploded and fell from the sky, and hopes are growing that the invasion of Ukraine is failing. The video of a helicopter being shot down in the field by a surface-to-air missile came amid claims that Vladimir Putin lost about 10,000 men in just 10 days.

Former British army commander General Lord Dannatt said he feared the dictator might resort to nuclear weapons in an attempt to turn the tide.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi defiantly claimed that his forces have been killing up to 1,000 Russian soldiers a day. The death toll is a crushing blow for Russia, which has more than 900,000 active soldiers.

To compare, the Soviet Union lost about 14,000 soldiers in Afghanistan in 10 years, a conflict that contributed to the collapse of the communist state. Ukraine also claims to have destroyed hundreds of Russian tanks, armored vehicles, helicopters and fighter jets.

According to some sources, the Kremlin was “demoralised” by losses and an additional 30,000 of wounded soldiers. Among those killed was Major General Andrey Sukhovetsky, 47, who had been shot dead a few days earlier by a SAS-trained sniper. Two more senior Russian officers, division and regiment commanders, were also killed.

Many of the Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine are believed to be as young as 18 and are poorly trained. Some of the captives told that they had no idea that they were sent into battle claiming they thought they were on a training exercise.

Bullying and mistreatment of young recruits is also widespread in Russian forces. According to a certain source: “The life of young recruits in the Russian army is brutal. No wonder why so many soldiers surrender”.

General Dannatt described the fact of “deplorable revelation” of the failure of Russian generals to conduct a large combined arms operation. He said: “Moreover, their leadership on the battlefield was appalling”. “The lack of clearly explained reasons for conducting the operation to their troops bordered on crime — [the commanders] demanded the young men to take risks and die without explaining why”.

“The conscripts thought they were going to Ukraine as liberators and peacemakers and were shocked to face confrontation. The true number of Russian casualties will be very high and probably never be known”.

“Even more, it looks like officers were abandoning their soldiers stuck in their vehicles in a huge northern convoy to save their own skins. This is a moral and military failure of the highest order”. In General Dannat’s opinion, the war will reach a stalemate, but expects Putin’s army to continue the offensive in the coming weeks. He said: “Russians will begin making some progress as a result of their air superiority and firepower.  Usually large battalions win.

“However, all of this may take time, and the time is not on Putin’s side as sanctions and international isolation starts biting. There must be a negotiated settlement, but who will facilitate this process? Putin hates the West, but is afraid of China”.

“The U.S. should use classified channels to negotiate with the Chinese to persuade them to take Putin by the shoulders and guide him to the negotiating table — a cease-fire first, and then a discussion of the future status of Ukraine, probably a kind of neutrality status akin to Austria”.

General Dannatt warned that Putin might use tactical or nuclear weapons to defeat Kyiv. He said: “Russians might consider using tactical nuclear weapons to break a stalemate — perhaps north of Kyiv to gain access [to the capital]. A nightmare scenario”.

Last week, Putin announced that he had put his nuclear forces on “high alert,” and the battles raged around the remnants of Chornobyl nuclear power plant raised fears of possible radioactive fallout. On Friday, Russian soldiers were accused of creating a risk of disaster after a missile strike on Zaporizhzhia NPP caused fire of an outbuilding.

Putin’s troops have advanced into southern and eastern Ukraine, but a convoy of armoured vehicles stretching for over 30 miles north of Kyiv got stuck.

General Dannatt said that while it has not yet been possible to storm the capital, it can be assumed that Russian military commanders hope to “bypass” the city from the south. It is believed, however, that problems with the convoy might hinder their plans. Many vehicles are believed to have run out of fuel or are stuck in the mud, while soldiers are looting the homes of locals in search of food.

Some sources of defence agencies [in Ukraine] say that [convoy’s stoppage] was influenced by Ukrainian ambushes, destroyed bridges, and poor planning [by the Russians].

The impending terror has forced more than 1 million people to flee Ukraine, but the Ukraine’s State Border Service reports that 80,000 people have returned from across the border to fight. Foreign volunteers, including Britons, have also enlisted [in the Ukrainian army], while thousands of Russians are said to have fled to Finland to avoid the conscription.
