The chairman of the Latvian city of Ogre, Egils Helmanis, was injured during a Russian attack. This was reported by the representative of the city municipality, Patriks Griva.
According to him, Helmanis is currently on a business trip with Ukrainian volunteers to deliver cars and other assistance to the fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Such missions are regularly on the chairman’s agenda, even since 2022, since the very beginning of the war, a serious number of cars have been transferred and brought every few months, this time also about 20 cars,” Griva said.
According to Ukrainian sources, Helmanis is currently in stable condition.
It is noted that the chairman of the Latvian city was injured as a result of shelling in the city of Slavyansk. He was provided with medical assistance.
As Griva stressed, there is no more detailed information about the scene at the moment, as the routes of aid missions are kept secret for security reasons.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that the Latvian Embassy in Ukraine has contacted Helmanis. He did not request consular assistance, but the embassy is ready to help if necessary. Helmanis is organizing his return to Latvia on his own.
