Consequences of the war: in Zaporizhzhia, the recorded waste from the destruction already exceeds 9 thousand tons

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, more than 9,000 tons of demolition waste and more than 28,000 m³ of associated household waste have already been generated in Zaporizhzhia as a result of enemy shelling. This was reported by the Zaporizhzhya City Council’s Department for Effective Work and Development of Communal Enterprises.

According to the protocols of the commission on technogenic and environmental safety and emergency situations of the city of Zaporizhzhia, the amount of waste from destruction transported to temporary storage sites, namely to Solid Household Waste Landfill No. 1 in the period from 2022 to 31.03.2024, is:

1) 3,072.2 tons of associated construction waste from demolitions and 28,008.53 m³ of associated household waste from demolitions were transported by Zaporizhzhya Communal Motor Vehicle Enterprise;

2) 6,152.90 tons of associated construction waste from the destruction, which was transported by the utility company “ELUASH”.

According to local self-government bodies, as of the beginning of 2024, about 600,000 tons of demolition waste have been accumulated at temporary storage sites and landfills. And these are volumes accumulated only in the territory under the control of Ukraine, without taking into account the waste from destruction in temporarily occupied territories and territories of active hostilities.
