Crimean Titan: when the occupiers can commit a new environmental crime

There is no doubt that the Russian occupiers can use “Crimean Titan” as an element of environmental blackmail, because the undermining of this enterprise is a large-scale eco-catastrophe. But there are several opinions about when the Russian occupying forces can go for it.

Currently, the Russians are thoroughly building defense lines in the northern regions of the peninsula, strengthening themselves in the trapezoid Armyansk-Medvedivka-Dzhankoy-Krasnoperekopsk. All this indicates that the command of the Russian occupation forces has come to terms with the fact that in the future they will have to flee from the mainland South of Ukraine.

In turn, the main defensive bridgehead for them will be this “Crimean trapeze” on one of the peaks of which the “Crimean Titan” is located. The question arises, will the occupiers blow up the enterprise when the main part of their group is there? Obviously not. But not quite.

The risk of undermining the “Crimean Titan” is possible when the Russian occupying forces flee from Crimea itself, and in order to slow down, but not stop the Defense Forces of Ukraine, they may resort to this large-scale terrorist act. This will allow them to buy some time by slowing down the advance of the Ukrainian army, but at what cost…

Out of fear, the Russian command had already blown up the Kakhovskaya HPP in order to make the hypothetical forcing of the Dnieper impossible. They can commit a similar war crime with catastrophic consequences by organizing an escape from Crimea.

Therefore, one of the tasks, not so much of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, but of the international community, should be to exert such pressure on Moscow so that it understands that every environmental crime will cost it very dearly. Otherwise, the consequences of the explosion will rake both us and Europe.
