There may be several hundreds of thousands: how many Ukrainian children have been kidnapped by Russia
Russia cynically kidnaps Ukrainian children and takes them to Russia. To date, the deportation of 19,393 children has been officially confirmed.
This was reported by Darya Gerasimchuk, authorized adviser to the President of Ukraine on child rights and child rehabilitation. According to her, all data that Ukraine has are published on the single state information platform “Children of War”.
The number we use as of April 25 is 19,393 children. This is a list of names by the fact of appeals to the National Information Bureau from parents, other relatives, from witnesses, from local authorities who submitted a statement to the National Information Bureau regarding the fact of deportation or forced transfer of a child, Gerasimchuk said.
However, this is a very small fraction, because in reality, we are talking about several hundred thousand kidnapped children. Gerasimchuk emphasized that 200,000 to 300,000 Ukrainian children were abducted by the Russians.
The Prosecutor General’s Office registered almost 76,000 crimes of aggression and war crimes:
9,000 civilians died, including 465 children;
About 20,000 civilians have gone missing;
4.8 million Ukrainians became IDPs, 7.9 million of our citizens found refuge abroad.
In addition, 171 cases of conflict-related sexual violence were recorded.
More than 8,500 civilians have died in Ukraine since the full-scale invasion began
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, 8,574 civilians have died in Ukraine. Another 14,441 were injured.
This is stated in the summary of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
As of April 24, 23,015 civilian casualties were recorded, including 8,574 dead and 14,441 wounded
“From April 1 to April 23, 2023, 405 victims among the civilian population were confirmed: 104 people were killed and 301 people were injured – mainly due to the use of explosive weapons with a wide impact zone, mines, etc.,” the message says.
The numbers may be higher because information from places where intense hostilities are going on is delayed. This applies, in particular, to Mariupol, Lysychansk, Popasnaya and Severodonetsk, where numerous victims among the civilian population are reported.
About 77,500 war crimes have been committed by the Russian Federation since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. These are officially documented cases.
“We see that what unites them is the rapid and constant desire of the leadership of the Russian Federation to destroy Ukraine as an independent country, and Ukrainians as a separate independent nation. And it is from this angle that we try to analyze the murders committed by the Russians in Ukraine, the facts of torture and violence,” said the head of the War Crimes Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office Yuriy Belousov.
