Damaged houses, casualties and many victims, including pregnant women: details of the attack on Kyiv on January 1

Russia attacked Kyiv with “Shaheds” on New Year’s Day, which led to destruction and casualties.

Debris damaged residential buildings and infrastructure in the Pechersk and Svyatoshyn districts of Kyiv.

On the night of January 1, Russia attacked Ukraine with “Shaheds”. Some of them hit Kyiv, which led to destruction.

Unfortunately, there are casualties as a result of this shelling.

An air alert in the capital region due to the threat of an attack by “Shaheds” was announced at 0:59, and in Kyiv itself at 6:47.

Later, the first explosions were heard in the Kyiv region. Residents were warned about the work of air defense on Russian targets. Defenders of the sky were also working in the capital.

In total, 111 strike UAVs attacked Ukraine that night. As of 9:30, 63 of them were confirmed to have been shot down. Another 46 were lost in the air, and 2 flew to Russia and Belarus.

Air defense work was recorded not only in Kyiv, but also in Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Kirovohrad and Mykolaiv regions.

UAVs attacked two districts of Kyiv.

Explosions were heard in Kyiv in the morning. Unfortunately, later information appeared about the fall of debris in the Pecherskуі district of the city on non-residential buildings. The roof caught fire there.

There was also a report of partial destruction of the attic floor of a five-story residential building with subsequent fire. The fire covered an area of ​​20 square meters. One person was rescued from there.

In addition, there is partial destruction from the 6th to the 4th floors of a six-story residential building. Due to falling debris, apartments on the 4th and 5th floors caught fire there. Rescuers evacuated residents.

Windows and doors were broken in the nearby school.

Debris also fell on a non-residential area in the Svyatoshynskyi district of Kyiv and caused a local fire. 6 cars and 2 garages were damaged there, as well as a tram track 100 meters from the depot.

It is previously known that houses in the center of Kyiv were attacked by at least four “Shaheds”. Law enforcement officers and experts are urgently investigating everything, – said the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak.

In total, according to the prosecutor’s office, as of 14:28, there are seven victims as a result of the morning attack, including two pregnant women, and two dead.

Two victims were hospitalized, four more, including one pregnant woman, were helped on the spot. Most of the victims are from the Pecherskуі district. It is known for certain that one of the deceased is also from there.

A search and rescue operation is underway at the site of the falling debris.

Even on New Year’s Eve, Russia was only concerned about how to hurt Ukraine. One hundred and eleven strike drones against our cities. Most of them did not reach their targets thanks to our air defense systems, our mobile fire groups and electronic warfare systems, he said.

The head of state expressed condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased. He also thanked everyone who “every night and every day on duty, at work, protects Ukraine and Ukrainians.”
