Damaged unique stained glass windows and bell tower: Dnipro assesses consequences of attack on House of Organ Music

After the Russian attack on the Dnipro, experts continue to assess the extent of damage to the House of Organ and Chamber Music. According to preliminary data, the restoration of the historical monument could cost hundreds of millions of hryvnias.

Nadiya Lyshtva, head of the Department for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Dnipro City Council, emphasized that this is an architectural monument of national importance. The building, known as the Bryansk Church, was built in 1913–1915.

According to her, the blast wave damaged unique interior elements and decorations that were created specifically for this building during the restoration.

The stained glass windows from the 1980s are broken, the furniture, door handles and other elements that were made individually specifically for this building are damaged,” the official noted.

So far, the specialists have only conducted an initial visual inspection. A full engineering survey is needed to determine the true extent of the damage.

The building’s bell tower is also among the damaged. Experts have recorded cracks and peeling metal sheets of gilding. Experts cannot yet say whether this is just damage to the plaster or more serious structural deformations.

The final extent of the damage will be known after a detailed survey of the monument is completed.
