Due to Russian shelling in the Kherson region, 500 hectares of fields in the Kherson region have already burned down. In addition, this year’s yield is several times lower than usual.
It’s hot now. There has been almost no rain. The fire is spreading very quickly. This year, the yield of all grain crops and not only grain crops is already several times lower. So [from the shelling] both people, infrastructure, and crops are suffering.
Such crop losses will be felt throughout Ukraine.
This will be a problem for all of Ukraine. Because the Kherson region has always been the breadbasket of Ukraine. Ukraine is the breadbasket of Europe. Now a situation has arisen that not all fields have been sown. On those that have been sown, the yield is half as low. Also, a lot has burned down as a result of Russian shelling. The situation is not very pleasant.
Earlier, the deputy chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, Denys Marchuk, said that farmers who returned to part of the Kherson region after de-occupation worked on borrowed money, as their equipment was destroyed and the fields were mined. Now, due to weather conditions, they are losing their crops and cannot financially protect themselves. Because of this situation, farmers even turned to the government for financial assistance, but, as Denys Marchuk said, they did not receive a positive response. In this regard, farmers propose to create a state insurance program for farmers. They ask the authorities to adopt such a mechanism for 2026.
