Due to Russian shelling in Odessa region, an ecological disaster occurred

Over 125 tons of sunflower oil fell into the Sukhyi Liman in Odessa region, the damage from the ecological disaster amounted to 10.9 billion hryvnias.

This was reported by the State Ecological Inspectorate of the South-Western District.

In October 2024, as a result of another air attack by the Russian Federation, significant damage was caused to the port infrastructure of Odessa region. Among the most serious consequences was the leakage of more than 125 tons of sunflower oil into the Sukhyi Liman.

But it was only now that the necessary materials for a full analysis and calculation of damage to water resources were collected, which made it possible to assess the true scale of ecological damage.

The total amount of damage is 10.9 billion hryvnias.

“Such large-scale accidents emphasize the importance of preventive measures. Ukrainian enterprises, especially those working with potentially hazardous substances, should pay more attention to effective mechanisms for preventing environmental consequences in war conditions, which will help minimize environmental risks,” the environmental inspectorate notes.
