During the occupation of Kherson, a painting by the famous French artist Louise Guyot was stolen from the museum

This is reported by the administration of the Kherson Art Museum named after Oleksiy Shovkunenko.

The painting “Port” came to the museum from the collection of Maria Kornilovska, who bequeathed her collection to Kherson. For many years, the Frenchman Victor Guyot was considered the author of the work. However, museum research revealed that it was written by a woman – the French artist Louise J. Guyot, who worked in Paris in the 1880s. Her paintings are similar to museum paintings in terms of subject matter, style, composition, color solutions, and time of creation.

“Unfortunately, biographical data about the author is still not enough. All the available information is the years of life 1869-1927 (according to some sources, perhaps 1841 1989) and the fact that she lived in France, for a certain time in Paris (this is evidenced by the signatures on the works). Further searches were interrupted by the Russian invasion, occupation and looting of the museum by the Russians before fleeing Kherson in early November 2022. It is not known where the French artist’s “Port” is now,” the post noted.
