Before fleeing from Kherson in early November 2022, the Russians stole from the collection of the Shovkunenko Kherson Regional Museum a painting by artist Zinaida Serebryakova entitled “Peasant Woman of the Kursk Province”.
This was reported by the museum. It is noted that the painting “Peasant Woman of the Kursk Province” was painted with gouache on paper in 1907 in the village of Neskuchne, which at that time administratively belonged to the Kursk Province, which explains the name of the work.
Zinaida Serebryakova was born in the village of Neskuchne, which at the beginning of the 20th century was part of the Belgorod district of the Kursk province, and in 1927 became part of the Kharkiv region.
More than 10,000 works of Ukrainian, Russian and European artists were stolen from the Kherson Art Museum by the Russians in the fall of 2022.
