The vast majority of detained civilians from the northern regions are in the territory of the Russian Federation without a special status or charges
In the Kyiv region, at least 250 civilians were detained and taken to the Russian Federation during the occupation of the region at the beginning of the invasion. The Executive Director of the Media Initiative for Human Rights, Tetyana Katrychenko, said this during a briefing.
According to her, at the beginning of February 2022, the Media Initiative for Human Rights was aware of about 300 civilian detainees on the territory of Donbas. And more than 150 were detained on the territory of Crimea and transferred to Russia.
“After the full-scale invasion, we know about 1,800 people detained. In particular, in the Kyiv region, at least 250 people were detained and taken to the Russian Federation,” Katrychenko said.
She added that the vast majority of detained civilians from the northern regions are on the territory of the Russian Federation without a special status or charges.
“There are various categories of citizens among the detainees. These are activists who actively opposed the occupation. There are also detained journalists and media workers in general.”
