Employees of the Kherson Art Museum identified five more paintings stolen by the Russians from the institution. It was possible to do this thanks to a careful study of the photo materials made public by the Russians themselves.
The kidnappers released the photos on April 1 of this year.
“The Russians documented their own crimes when signing the “paper” about the storage of stolen paintings… Based on the images and parts of the images, 5 more works from the collection of the Kherson Regional Art Museum named after Oleksiy Shevkunenko were identified,” the post reads.
Among the stolen goods, it was possible to recognize the painting “Still Life with a Samovar” from 1980 by the Kherson amateur artist Vasyl Chorny. In particular, the picture can be recognized even by the label attached to the frame of the work.
The museum staff also identified the 1965 work “Lilac on the Window” by Kherson luminary Georgy Kurnakov. This is already the third painting by the artist that has been confirmed to be in the hands of the Russian Federation.
Museum officials note that the collection contained almost 250 works of this master, which the museum received according to his will. By the way, the artist bequeathed to the Kherson Art Museum not only his own works, but also works of art that made up his personal collection.
Also, in the photos that were made public, it was possible to see three works of the master of decorative arts Lyudmila Petrova: “Joy”; panel “Come on, sweetie, let’s suffer”; panel “Fashionistas”.
