Evidence of Russian war crimes shown in Kharkiv: Russians have already killed 2,926 people

In the Kharkiv region, 2,926 people have died as a result of Russian shelling since 2022, including 97 children.

Kharkiv investigators have removed thousands of fragments from the sites of shelling, which can be used to identify those involved in war crimes.

This was reported by the spokesman for the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, Dmytro Chubenko.

“Since the beginning of the invasion, 2,926 people have died as a result of shelling by the Russians in Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region, including 97 children. In addition, 7,288 people were injured, including 565 children,” Chubenko said.

The Russians shelled the region with multiple launch rocket systems (“Grad”, “Uragan”, “Smerch”), ballistic missiles (“Iskander”, S-300/400), cruise missiles (X-101, X-59, “Caliber”), drones (“Geran-2”, “Parody”, “Gerbera”), etc. Currently, there are about 1 thousand fragments of Russian shells, drones and missiles at the evidence storage site.

To date, in the Kharkiv region, investigators have initiated about 22 thousand criminal proceedings under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war) regarding the shelling. “We can say that the Russians shelled the city of Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region about 22 thousand times,” Chubenko emphasized.

He added that now the Russian army most often uses long-range weapons to shell Kharkiv and the region – guided aerial bombs, missiles and UAVs of various types. Recently, the Russian army began shelling Kharkiv with the UMPB-5 aerial bomb, which can fly 100-120 km.

In the Kharkiv region, the Russians used KN-23 missiles manufactured in the DPRK, which were manufactured according to the drawings of Soviet Iskander missiles.

“What the Russians are doing is an obvious war crime. Shelling of civilian infrastructure,” Chubenko emphasized.

Evidence of war crimes by the Russian army is being collected for trials and the tribunal regarding Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine.
