Freed Ukrainians never saw representatives of the Red Cross in Russian captivity

Freed from captivity Ukrainian military and civilians have never seen representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, stated this during a meeting with relatives of missing soldiers.

During the meeting, Lubinets said that the status of a missing person does not mean that a serviceman has died.

According to him, it very often happens that a serviceman is captured by the Russians, but the Red Cross cannot confirm this.

At the same time, Lubinets emphasized that Ukrainians in Russian captivity have never seen representatives of the organization.

“During the exchanges, we survey those released from captivity and ask if they have seen representatives of the ICRC. And so far there has been no positive answer,” Lubinets said.

In June 2023, the International Committee of the Red Cross was unable to name the number of Ukrainians the organization’s representatives visited in Russian captivity.

Back in the fall of 2022, the ICRC announced that the organization had not received permission from the Russians to visit Ukrainian prisoners in camps in the occupied territories of Ukraine.

March 15 of this year the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, called for an investigation into information about the possible involvement of the Russian Red Cross in supporting aggression against Ukraine.
