French law enforcement officers have started an investigation into the criminal proceedings into the death of French citizens as a result of the Russian attack on the Kherson region.
Proceedings have been opened for the commission of a war crime and intentional harm to the life of a person protected by international humanitarian law. The investigation has been entrusted to the gendarmes of the Central Directorate for Combating Crimes Against Humanity.
It is noted that this is already the 10th such criminal proceeding, which was initiated since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Russians committed another war crime on February 1 in the city of Berislav. The Russians launched a massive shelling using drones. As a result of the enemy attack, two volunteers – citizens of France – died. Three more French volunteers and an activist from the Ukrainian representative office of the international organization were injured. The next day, France confirmed that the dead were workers of humanitarian organizations who had arrived in Kherson region to help the civilian population in the frontline areas.
French President Emmanuel Macron expressed condolences over the death of two French volunteers in Ukraine. They were killed on February 1 by a Russian drone strike in Beryslav, Kherson region: “Two French humanitarian workers died in Ukraine as a result of a Russian strike. A cowardly and outrageous act. My thoughts are with their loved ones and wounded comrades, and my solidarity with all the volunteers who dedicated themselves to helping people,” Macron wrote.
