How much forest burned in the “Holy Mountains” due to the shelling of Sviatohirsk

About 20 hectares of forest burned in the “Holy Mountains” national park. The troops of the Russian Federation shelled Sviatohirsk at 4:00 p.m. on September 30, as a result of which a fire broke out in the city, which spread to the territory of the national park. This was announced by the director of the “Holy Mountains” National Park, Serhii Pryimachuk.

“The fire was extinguished until the morning, it was localized. All available forces were involved — units of the State Emergency Service, the National Guard, park employees. There are still pockets in some places, and a meadow is burning in the village of Yarova – the fire is being contained there.” According to Serhiy Priymachuk, there was a strong wind that caused the fire. “There could have been a large-scale fire, but it was contained. We calculate what damage it caused to the city. Practically, the city of Sviatohirsk was in such danger that not only houses and premises could burn, but also people could suffer. Fortunately, they were not injured.”

In the last fire, 6,000 hectares of forest burned, the director of the park said. Workers have the means to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further. “You see how beautiful the pines are. It is not the work of one generation to raise others. And it also takes a long time to restore. Now neither animals, nor plants, nor birds will be able to settle and live here,” Pryimachuk clarified.
