In 2023, a record number of injured civilians from explosions over the past 10 years was recorded.
UK-based charity Action Against Gun Violence (AOAV) has recorded an increase in civilian casualties caused by bombings. This figure increased by 122% in 2023.
Experts point out that this growth is mainly related to the war that Russia started in Ukraine. The war between Israel and Hamas, military operations in Sudan, Myanmar and Somalia were also hinted at.
At least 15,305 civilians were killed in the attacks, a 122% increase over 2022.
It is reported that tens of thousands have received injuries of varying degrees of severity. AOAV also reports that the use of air-based weapons worldwide increased by 226% in 2023, from 519 incidents in 2022 to 1,694 in 2023. In addition, the charity also recorded a significant increase in the use of land-based weapons in 2023.
