According to the head of the Berestyn community, Svitlana Kryvenko, during the shelling, the girl ran to a shelter in the basement. She received serious shrapnel wounds. Doctors performed an emergency operation, but Karina died on the operating table.
As a result of the strike, which occurred at around 10:50 p.m. on November 17, eight people were injured, including a 16-year-old teenager. The condition of the injured is moderate. Two more women sought help due to acute stress reaction. According to preliminary data, the Russians fired at least four missiles at Berestyn: two were hit on the evening of November 17, and two more approximately an hour later.
