In Kharkiv region, an oil refinery burned down due to a drone attack

On the night of March 18, an oil refinery in the city of Merefa, Kharkiv region, was completely burned down due to an attack by Russian drones.

This was reported by the investment and industrial group AES Group.

The drone attack on the refinery lasted for two hours. As a result, a fire broke out that destroyed the enterprise.

It is noted that this is the fourth strike on the plant since February 2022. Before that, the enterprise was operating at only 10% of its capacity, but after the last attack it was completely destroyed. The attack began at about 9 p.m. on March 17 and lasted until 11 p.m., the fire was extinguished until the morning. Now the enterprise is not fully operational, there is no talk of restoring it yet.

“About 20 UAV hits on the territory. The enterprise has very significant destruction of production facilities and equipment,” said Dmytro Chubenko, spokesman for the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The fire was extinguished all night, and explosives technicians are currently working at the scene.
