In Russia, a Ukrainian detained in occupied Mariupol was sentenced to 26 years in a penal colony

The Southern District Military Court of the Russian Federation in Rostov-on-Don found a citizen of Ukraine and a citizen of Russia, detained in occupied Mariupol, guilty of terrorism and espionage.

The court’s press service stated that Denis Glushchenko and Oleksandr Malyshev were sentenced to 26 years in a strict regime penal colony.

Russian investigators claimed that in 2022, Glushchenko and Malyshev allegedly established contact with representatives of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in Russian-occupied Melitopol.

It is reported that after this, the convicts allegedly “collected and verified information about the functioning of buildings and structures for the placement of military formations and law enforcement units.”

According to the investigation, a missile and bomb strike was carried out on the basis of this information against Russian military personnel in the Zaporizhia region.

The men were detained in Mariupol in October 2023.
