After the de-occupation of Kherson Region, law enforcement officers have already discovered 127 bodies of civilians.
In the Kherson region, law enforcement officers exhume the remains of civilians killed by enemy fire, killed or tortured by the Russians almost every day in various places. After each death, prosecutors collect criminal cases so that evidence of Russian crimes can be investigated in international courts in the future.
Next to the white house in the village of Sadok, among the trees – a grave and two crosses. “This is my son here, he was supposed to turn 30 on December 20,” says a local resident.
Her son’s name was Mykola, he died together with his friend Serhii, and they were buried together. They did it in their own yard, because the Russians did not allow them to move around the village at that time. Now the remains will be reburied in the cemetery under the supervision of the police, forensic experts, and prosecutors. The boys were buried in parts, their bodies badly mutilated.
They died nearby under the ruins of a neighboring house in which the occupiers lived. When the Russians were leaving, they decided to set the house on fire. Mykola and Serhiy rushed to put out the neighbor’s fire, but they did not know: the Russians had deliberately mined the house. The explosion happened in front of Mykola’s father. It shook so much that nothing survived from the brick two-story building. Then almost the whole village rushed to search, people were sorting through the debris with their hands.
After the exhumation, forensic experts examine the remains, and law enforcement officers record everything on camera. “We document war crimes committed by the military of the Russian Federation. An exhumation has now been carried out in this criminal proceeding to determine the cause of death. In the future – documentation, so that these evidences are sent, including to international courts”, states the prosecutor of the Kherson regional prosecutor’s office Vitaliy Istomin.
After the de-occupation of Kherson Region, law enforcement officers have already discovered 127 bodies of civilians. Killed by shelling, killed, tortured. In this region, as elsewhere, the Russians made a mess. “They fired at us, and then they said that the Ukrainians are firing at you. Oh yeah. They walked around the yards, stealing from people. Wherever there was something in the houses – they took it,” – say the locals.
The remains of Serhiy and Mykola were reburied in coffins according to the rules. Almost the whole village came to the funeral.
