Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, law enforcement agencies in the Mykolaiv region have documented almost 3 thousand criminal offenses under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war).
As a result of these crimes, 538 civilians died, another 1,482 were injured.
This was reported by the Mykolaiv regional prosecutor’s office.
The main part of these crimes is related to shelling of settlements, attacks on civilian objects, as well as intentional killings and looting of property.
According to the results of the pre-trial investigation, 12 indictments were sent to the court against 17 people for violations of the laws and customs of war. Two guilty verdicts have already been passed.
In early January, the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that 527 people were killed in Mykolaiv Oblast as a result of Russian shelling, including 14 children, and 1,453 people were injured, including 88 children.
