The Russians illegally deprived a 17-year-old resident of the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson region of his liberty after he attempted to leave for the territory controlled by Ukraine.
This was reported by the Center for Investigative Journalism.
The boy was detained after his pro-Russian mother filed a missing person report with the occupation police.
The young man planned to leave the occupation before reaching the age of majority due to fears of forced mobilization into the Russian army. He independently found a carrier and set off, but was detained by Russian security forces at one of the checkpoints in Luhansk region near the exit from the occupied territory. After the mother’s statement, the occupation security forces conducted a raid in the village where the boy lived.
“This resulted in real horror for the entire village. Representatives of the Russian Guard and the occupation police staged a large-scale raid with searches and beatings of many people. They were looking for those who organized and facilitated the boy’s departure, extracted confessions under torture, but they did not find anyone. The Russians brutally beat the boy’s elderly relative, kidnapped and tortured his father, and threatened to kill him. In order to keep him alive, he agreed to sign a contract to serve in the Russian army,” sources told the Center for Investigative Journalism.
Later, the villagers learned that the Russians had allegedly sentenced the young man to 12 years in prison on charges of high treason.
