In Vovchansk, Russians attacked police cars as they went to rescue civilians

The Russians once again committed a war crime by firing at a car with police officers during the evacuation of the civilian population from Vovchansk. As a result of the attack, a policeman was killed, another law enforcement officer was injured.

The tragedy occurred on May 22 during the evacuation of civilians from Vovchansk. The police of the Kharkiv region reported that Andrii Ladyka died during the attack.

The Russians fired at a car with policemen

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, said that in Vovchansk, the Russian military attacked a police car with an FPV drone during evacuation. At that moment, there were two police officers in the car who were going to rescue civilians.

Unfortunately, as a result of the attack, a policeman was killed, and his partner was seriously injured. Klymenko emphasized that enemy drones are constantly circling, the danger for police evacuation teams is consistently high, but law enforcement officers continue to rescue people and take them out of shelling.

They save despite the risks to their own lives and health. This self-sacrifice should always be remembered, Klymenko stressed.

Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets reacted to the incident. He emphasized that this strike is terrorism in its purest form. The Human Rights Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada stated that a police vehicle cannot be a military target in accordance with the norms of international law.

Police transport cannot be a military target according to international law! This is a car that is used for humanitarian purposes: helping the civilian population. It is impossible to even confuse a police vehicle with a military vehicle, as it is marked and marked, Lubinets said.

The Ombudsman added that this is not the first time that Russia has prevented the evacuation of the population from the war zone and occupied territories. During the 2 years of full-scale war, the Russians have been shelling evacuation vehicles and even entire convoys.

“People die trying to escape from evil… But evil is catching up! The civilized world should not turn a blind eye to this! We need a reaction and concrete steps to stop the aggressor!”, the ombudsman urged.

As reported by the police of the Kharkiv region, on May 22, in the city of Vovchansk, Chuguyiv district, during evacuation measures, Russians were chased and targeted by a police service car “Duster” from an FPV drone. At that moment, there were two police officers in the car.
