It became known how many athletes died because of Russia’s war against Ukraine

As a result of Russia’s full-scale war in Ukraine, 456 Ukrainian athletes and coaches who belonged to the national teams died. Also, approximately 500 sports facilities were partially or completely destroyed.

Acting Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports of Ukraine Matviy Bidny reported this.

According to him, the number of dead and injured Ukrainian sportsmen is increasing almost every day.

“Today, the elite of Ukrainian sports defend our independence and our future with weapons in their hands. We are suffering very heavy losses. Just last week, a two-time European champion in weightlifting died, he was in fourth place at the Olympics in Rio,” Bidny emphasized.

According to the head of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, more than 500 sports facilities and 100 youth infrastructure facilities in Ukraine were destroyed as a result of Russian attacks.

As you know, more than 3,000 athletes and trainers are fighting against the Russian forces in the ranks of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
