Illegally imprisoned by the Russians, the Crimean citizen journalist Iryna Danylovych suffered a stroke in the Simferopol pre-trial detention center.
This was stated by ZMINA project manager Viktoriya Nesterenko during the presentation of the list of suspects in the persecution of Crimean journalists and bloggers at the Ukraine Media Center: “Iryna Danylovych, while still in the Simferopol pre-trial detention center, suffered one or more strokes. Now she was being staged to Russia, there with the help of pressure from human rights activists managed to conduct at least some tests and an MRI on her. And the MRI confirmed that she survived a stroke. Her guesses about her medical condition while in the Simferopol pre-trial detention center were confirmed.”
Nesterenko reminded that the journalist also fell ill with otitis media. “She constantly complained that her health was deteriorating. She was never given medical assistance. Although human rights activists and her relatives constantly raised this issue. As a result, she became deaf in one ear,” she emphasized.
The human rights activist emphasized that the non-provision of medical aid is one of the mechanisms of pressure on political prisoners and journalists imprisoned in Crimea and the Russian Federation.
She informed that since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, law enforcement officers recorded 142 cases of attacks and threats against journalists in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
Illegally imprisoned Crimean citizen journalist Iryna Danylovych is not provided with medical care in the colony in the city of Zelenokumsk (Stavropol region, Russian Federation).
On December 28, 2022, in the temporarily occupied Crimea, Iryna Danylovych was sentenced to 7 years in a general regime colony and a fine of 50,000 rubles for allegedly carrying an explosive device. The Supreme “court” of Crimea, in response to the appeal, reduced the term of stay in the colony by one month – to 6 years and 11 months. The woman repeatedly claimed pressure from the FSB of the Russian Federation, torture and intimidation.
