Latvian journalists come under fire from a Russian drone while working near the front line in Ukraine

Journalists from Latvian Public Media (LРM) — correspondent Odita Krenberga and cameraman Aigars Kovalevskis — survived an attack by a Russian drone while working near the front line in Ukraine.

The attack occurred while the LРM team was performing their professional duties and, together with Ukrainian soldiers, was heading to the positions of one of the units.

During the explosion, the drone exploded next to a car, the fragments damaged the rear of the car and broke the window. Thanks to the driver’s quick reaction, none of the LРM team or the soldiers were injured.

LРM Editor-in-Chief Anita Brauna stressed that journalists are aware of the risks of their work, because it is precisely such a presence that allows them to document Russian aggression against Ukraine.

“We highly appreciate the work and courage of our journalists, as independent journalism in this situation serves as an important counterweight to false and misleading reports, giving society the opportunity to base its understanding on facts, not manipulation,” — Anita Brauna.

According to the Ministry of Culture, since February 24, 2022, Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine has claimed the lives of 244 artists and 119 Ukrainian and foreign journalists.
