The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, appealed to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross for help in clarifying the circumstances of the shooting of Ukrainian soldiers near the village of Krynka, Kherson region.
“Social networks were shaken by another video of a cynical massacre of captured Ukrainian servicemen. It is currently unknown when and where the crime was committed. According to preliminary information, it happened near the village of Krynky in the Kherson Region. The video shows that three unarmed Ukrainian soldiers are lying in a ditch, and Russian troops are deliberately shooting them,” Lubinets said on April 7.
Lubinets said that the killing of prisoners of war is a “flagrant violation of the Geneva Convention” on the treatment of prisoners of war and a grave international crime.
“Unfortunately, such cases are not isolated and are a systematic practice of an insidious enemy,” the ombudsman wrote.
Lubinets also reminded that war crimes do not have a statute of limitations. Therefore, the international community “must give Russia a clear signal – it will not be possible to hide the traces of war crimes. Those who committed them and those who gave criminal orders will be brought to justice.”
“Regarding another violation by the Russian Federation of the norms of international humanitarian law, I immediately addressed official letters to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross, so that the organizations document this fact. This should become the evidential basis for the criminal tribunal,” Lubinets concluded.
