The Russian Federation is trying to use relatives of Ukrainian prisoners of war to incite internal discontent in Ukraine. The Russian Federation carries out its aggressive actions within the framework of the broad “Maidan-3” information campaign.
The Russians cynically lie that the Russian side is allegedly ready to return the prisoners of war, but the Ukrainian leadership allegedly prevents this.
Dmytro Lubynets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, said that the Russians are calling on relatives of prisoners of war to protest in Ukraine. At the same time, the ombudsman assured that Ukraine has never stopped exchanging prisoners of war.
ISW analysts noted that Russian information operations are likely part of the “Maidan-3” information campaign, which, as previously reported by the Security Service of Ukraine, is aimed at sowing internal discontent in Ukraine. The Russian Federation is trying to drive a wedge between the civilian population and the military and political leadership.
The ISW also noted that earlier the Russian Federation successfully used information operations, including direct correspondence with the Ukrainian civilian population, to incite violent protests in Ukraine.
Russia continues to wage war against Ukraine not only with weapons, but also with propaganda. On the information front, it seeks to sow division in Ukrainian society, creating chaos within the country.
Ukraine gave Russia an ultimatum regarding the detention of prisoners of war. Russians may lose the opportunity to call home because of the Kremlin’s thoughtless policy regarding Ukrainian prisoners.
