Massive night attack on Odesa on August 9

Russia has not launched such a massive attack on Odesa for a long time and this time used, in particular, expensive missile ammunition. Part of the strikes fell on the port infrastructure, but the Navy doubts that such spending on weapons had military expediency. At the same time, the Russian fleet continues to avoid sailing ships in the Black Sea due to the threat of losing them.

On the night of August 9, Russia launched 11 missiles of various types and up to 100 drones, including jet drones and “Banderol”-type loitering munitions, over the Odesa region.

According to updated data, most of the 11 missiles used entered the target along a ballistic trajectory. During combat operations, air defense shot down 72% of Russian UAVs, five out of six “Banderol” and one missile. Three more missiles, due to active countermeasures, did not reach their targets, the places of their fall are being established.

Several residential buildings were damaged and partially destroyed in two districts. Residents’ cars were also destroyed and damaged by fire.

According to the head of the regional military administration, Oleg Kiper, as of 21:05 on May 9, 13 people were already injured as a result of the nightly massive strike on the Odesa region.

It is specified that six of the injured are in hospital, one in serious condition, and another five in moderate condition. At the same time, other injured are receiving outpatient care.

The automobile bridge in the settlement of Mayaki Odesa was damaged. It is of critical importance for the logistics of southern Ukraine, as it provides transport connections with the Danube ports, which are one of the key directions of foreign trade transportation of the country. Currently, the highway is completely blocked. Many kilometers of traffic jams have formed in the area of ​​​​the damaged bridge. The State Border Guard Service said that due to the massive Russian attack, they restricted the movement of transport to certain checkpoints on the border with Moldova.

On August 9, Russian troops launched strikes on Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea, in particular on facilities in Odesa and Chornomorsk, as well as in nearby settlements.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said that fuel depots in the ports of Odesa and Chornomorsk were hit, which were allegedly used to supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
