More than 550 objects of cultural heritage have been destroyed or damaged in Ukraine

In Ukraine, there are more than 130,000 objects of cultural heritage on the state register, at the same time, more than 550 objects were destroyed or damaged as a result of Russian aggression.

This was announced by the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko.

“More than 550 monuments and objects of cultural heritage have been destroyed or damaged by the occupiers. The war continues, so we record new destruction every day,” the minister said.

According to him, 109,930 monuments are under state protection, and there are more than 130,000 objects of cultural heritage on the state register. “Part of them is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List – especially during the war as something that is under threat. Because the aggressor country purposefully destroys everything that we love and cherish so much, everything that defines us as a nation,” he emphasized. the head of Minister of Culture and Information Policy, noting that every loss of a cultural monument of Ukraine is a loss for world heritage.

He reminded that on April 18, the International Day of Monuments and Historic Sites (under UNESCO), Ukrainians also celebrate the Day of Historical and Cultural Monuments.

“Cultural heritage is a key element of the identification of the Ukrainian nation and a factor of Ukraine’s national security. The war became the impetus for the transformation of the understanding of the latter. That is why we raise cultural heritage – monuments of history and culture, landmarks and traditions – to a new level of significance for everyone inside country and in the world,” Tkachenko emphasized.

Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, said that the Russian Federation should answer in court for the destruction of Ukrainian culture and violation of the cultural rights of Ukrainians.

On April 18, the world celebrates the Day of Monuments and Landmarks, and in Ukraine – the Day of Monuments of History and Culture.

In Mykolaiv, there are 346 monuments on the state register, of which: 71 – archaeology; 108 – stories; 19 – monumental art; 139 – architecture; 9 – garden and park art, as well as about 400 objects of cultural heritage.
