Nearly 13,000 civilians killed since full-scale invasion of Ukraine

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 12,881 civilians have been killed, and nearly 30,500 more have been injured.

This was stated by UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Joyce Msuya during a meeting of the UN Security Council, Ukrinform reports.

“We hope for a complete cessation of hostilities and, ultimately, peace in Ukraine, but the situation for the civilian population continues to deteriorate. Since March 1, not a day has passed without an attack on the civilian population,” she stressed.

The UN is particularly concerned about the massive strikes across Ukraine, in particular the attack on March 7, when 21 people died. In addition, on March 21, a family was killed in a drone strike in Zaporizhia, and on March 24, an attack on Sumy injured almost 100 people, including 20 children.

According to the UN, since February 24, 2022, the Russian Federation has carried out more than 2,300 attacks on medical facilities. More than 13 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, of which 10 million are displaced persons, including 3.7 million internally displaced persons. Msuya also drew attention to the reduction in funding for humanitarian missions and stressed that humanitarian needs should be a key topic of negotiations on any ceasefire or long-term agreement.
