The General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine has launched an investigation into the massive attack by drones on the port and industrial infrastructure of Odesa. Russia struck on the night of August 2. This was reported in the Office of the Prosecutor General. “According to the investigation, on the night of August 2, the armed forces of the Russian Federation carried out a drone attack on Odesa region. The Russians attacked the facilities of the port and industrial infrastructure of the Danube,” the message reads.
As a result of the shelling, the elevator, grain hangars, tanks of one of the cargo terminals, production, warehouse and administrative premises were damaged and destroyed. In addition, the three-story building of “Morvokzal” suffered significant destruction. “The inspection is ongoing, a complete list of destruction and damage is being established. Prosecutors are working at the scene of the events in cooperation with other law enforcement officers, who are recording the consequences of the shelling,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said.
Shelling Odesa region
On the night of August 2, after 02:30, it became known that a group of “shaheeds” was moving to the south of Odesa. According to the Air Force, they entered along the mouth of the Danube.
Oleg Kiper, the head of the Odesa regional military administration, confirmed that the Russians continue to attack the south of the Odesa region with attack UAVs and urged residents to stay in shelters. The network reported on the work of air defense.
Іn recent weeks, Russia has destroyed 180,000 tons of grain crops, 26 port infrastructure facilities, and five civilian ships during its shelling of the Ukrainian South, mainly Odesa. In particular, the Russians took out of operation a significant part of the export infrastructure of the Chornomorsk port.
It will be recalled that the “South” operational command was informed that the Russians had launched drones in an unusual trajectory to attack the Odesa region. If earlier they were launched from the shores of one sea, this time – from the Sea of Azov through the Black Sea.
On the night of August 2, the Russian army carried out another attack on Odessa, using Geran-2 (Shahed-136) kamikaze drones. The head of the Odessa Regional Military Administration, Oleg Kiper, said: “At night, the Russian Federation sent strike UAVs to the south of the Odesa region. As a result of the attack, fires broke out at the port and industrial infrastructure of the region, the elevator was damaged … There were no reports of victims.”
According to the “South” operational command, the drones were fired from the Sea of Azov through the Black Sea and sent to the south of the Odessa region. The targets were port and industrial infrastructure facilities. Ukrainian air defense forces repelled this attack for three hours.
