During the years of the Russian occupation, Energodar of the Zaporizhzhia region turned into an almost empty city: if before the occupation, about 50 thousand people lived there, now there are 10 thousand, said chairman Dmytro Orlov: “There are certain migration, such demographic phenomena. In other words, the occupiers are moving, well, civilians, let’s say, Russians from the Russian Federation, even from their remote regions, are moving to Energodar, because it is impossible to provide 10,000 people for the life of a city of 50,000 people in terms of communal services,” he noted.
According to Orlov, the remaining residents are mostly pensioners, some of them are nuclear plant workers. They remain there, despite the pressure of the occupying forces, says the chairman.
Russian troops occupied the city of Energodar and the nearby Zaporizhzhіa NPP at the end of February 2022.
