People there have been living without electricity for a year: the Russians have dropped KABs in the villages of Sumy Region

On the night of February 26, the Russians fired 4 anti-tank missiles in the Yunakivska community in Sumy Region. As a result of the Russian strike, a couple died in their own house.

In total, the Russians completely destroyed one private residential building and damaged 5 more.

Details of shelling

Around 2:00 a.m. on February 26, explosions rang out in the Yunakivska community in the Sumy region. Later, the regional military administration reported the death of the couple in their own home.

A local resident of the village said that the Russians fired at the central street, damaging all the houses located on it.

The search and rescue operation took place at night, and around 9 a.m. the spokesman of the State Emergency Service, Oleg Strilka, announced that it had been completed and that firefighters had recovered the bodies of two people.

In general, the police reported that during February 25, there were more than 200 strikes by Russia in Sumy Region. 23 settlements were under enemy fire.

In addition to the Yunakivska community, destruction was also recorded in other communities. In particular, four houses, a kindergarten, and a burnt-out car were damaged. There was no more information about the injured or the dead.

The situation with electricity supply

There was also information that some communities in the Sumy region were left without electricity due to the night attack.

We receive such messages from Ukrenergo every day. Several villages, for example, in the Velikopysarіvska community, which are located on the border, have been living without electricity since May 2023.

Specialists cannot bring large-sized equipment there, because the shelling begins immediately. Therefore, people live without electricity for almost a year.

Unfortunately, shelling occurs constantly, where possible Oblenergo specialists, of course, leave. There are even cases when people who know electricity restore the electricity supply in their localities on their own.

Departure of locals to safe regions

The regional authorities constantly urge local residents to leave, especially from the five-kilometer border zone. However, the people who still remain there say that they have nowhere to go.

There is no money, there is no way to leave, they don’t want to leave their homes because they don’t know if they will be able to return and who will take care of those homes if they leave.

Community leaders say that those who wanted and had the opportunity have already left. Mostly, of course, these are young people with children.
