922 residents of the Kherson region are held captive by the Russians. Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson regional military administration, announced this. According to him, these are only civilian residents of the region who have been identified. By way of exchange, Prokudin noted, it was possible to return 510 people to the controlled territory.
“Unfortunately, we have the facts of the death of our people in captivity. The death of 27 people has now been confirmed,” added the head of the Kherson regional military administration.
The exchange issue, noted Prokudin, is kept under control.
“Negotiations are constantly held and we give lists and make contact. If we had Russian civilians in captivity, we would exchange them for ours. But there is no such thing. The process is very difficult. But we are pulling someone out,” the head of the regional military administration emphasized.
Volodymyr Mykolaenko, the former chairman of Kherson, has been held captive by the Russians since April 2022. His stay was confirmed by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
In June 2022, the Russian military abducted the current chairman of Kherson, Ihor Kolyhayev. His whereabouts are currently unknown.
Also, since March 2022, the Russians have also held Holopristan chairman Oleksandr Babich captive.
