To date, more than 126,000 civilians have died as a result of the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, and more than 126,000 war crimes committed by Russians are being investigated.
“To date, more than 126,000 war crimes have been registered. As a result of these crimes, more than 12,000 civilians, including 543 children, have died,” the Prosecutor General said.
He said that 556 suspects of war crimes have already been identified.
“The investigation of 386 people has been completed, the indictments against them have been sent to court. 105 people have already been sentenced for war crimes,” the Prosecutor General noted.
He drew attention to the fact that Ukraine, together with international partners, is building a network of comprehensive responsibility for the crimes of the Russian Federation.
According to Kostin, it is about national investigations, interaction with international mechanisms of justice, in particular, the International Criminal Court, bilateral and multilateral cooperation with countries investigating Russia’s international crimes, as well as ensuring compensation for damages in connection with Russian war crimes.
“To complete this system, one key element is missing – the Special International Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression, which will have jurisdiction to try the Russian Federation,” Kostin added.
