In Izyum, which survived the occupation, a lot of abandoned animals appeared. As the city council said, people suffer from their bites.
Since the beginning of the war, many people left their animals in the city, and after Izyum came under occupation. Homeless animals, the number of which has increased on the streets of Izyum, can come into contact with wild animals and become infected with rabies from them, say doctors.
After the release of Izyum, 11 victims of animal bites went to hospitals, 5 people were prescribed a course of treatment for rabies, i.e. vaccination. Most often, the source of rabies for humans is cats or dogs, but they can be infected after contact with cows, pigs, sheep, goats, bats, and so on.
In the wild, rabies is most often transmitted by wolves, foxes, rats, and hedgehogs. A person becomes infected through a bite or mucous membranes (for example, if an animal’s saliva gets on a wound). Bites on the head, face, and hands are especially dangerous.

Russian troops have been on the territory of the Kharkiv region since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine – from February 24, but they could not take the regional center.
As of October 25, 1.8% of the region’s territory (34 settlements) was under occupation, the regional military administration noted. On December 8, Sinegubov reported that 29 settlements remained to be de-occupied in the Kharkiv region.
