Rocket attack on Chernihiv: many killed and wounded, dozens of houses, institutions and cars damaged

The city of Chernihiv is recovering from another Russian war crime. On the morning of April 17, the Russians launched a massive attack on civilian infrastructure in the middle of the city. 3 rockets had previously arrived.

According to the testimony of eyewitnesses, at first there were two, and later a third one arrived. A little more than 10 minutes passed from the air raid signal to the moment of the hits. Dozens of buildings around, educational and medical institutions, cars were damaged. The number of victims and wounded reached more than 70 people, including children.

In the morning around 9:00 a.m. on April 17, some residents of high-rise buildings were still sleeping when a rocket attack took place on the city.

“We were at home. We were still in bed with our son, the woman was in the kitchen. Then she ran in. The child was under the blanket, we were on the floor. The windows and doors cracked, we were scared. We read the news and went outside,” said Serhiy and Yuliya, residents of the affected house. .

In addition to housing, an educational institution and a district hospital were also damaged. Its windows and doors were knocked out by the shock wave. Many people were injured by the debris.

“Again from Russian shelling, one of the departments there was damaged. We know about 20 victims. They are being helped. We are working with funds to clean up the remains and arrange the territory,” says Oleksandr Komlyk, head of the Civil Protection Department of the Chernihiv District State Administration.

At the scene of the tragedy, operational services deployed a headquarters, as well as points of indomitability and psychological assistance. Commissions have been organized in nearby houses that will record the damage in order to pay compensation for the destroyed housing. The rescue operation lasted throughout the day.
