Russia attacked a facility that provides a diversified gas supply route to Ukraine

On the night of August 6, Russia carried out a targeted attack on a gas infrastructure facility – a compressor station of the GTS Operator of Ukraine in the Odessa region near the Ukrainian-Romanian border.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

It is noted that this compressor station was involved in the route that connects Greek LNG terminals with Ukrainian gas storage facilities via the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, and along which LNG from the United States and test volumes of Azerbaijani gas were already being delivered.

The ministry noted that dozens of strike drones attacked the equipment that provides these supplies at night. Specialists are working at the site of the attack to establish the consequences of the attack.

This is a Russian strike purely on civilian infrastructure, targeted against the energy sector and at the same time against relations with Azerbaijan, the United States and partners in Europe,” the report says.

Energy Minister Svitlana Grinchuk stressed that the massive Russian drone attack on a key compressor station on the Trans-Balkan route indicates that Moscow will use all available means and levers to destroy the energy independence of Europeans and alternative gas supply routes.

In July, the Russians struck the gas transportation system in the Odessa region: almost 1,700 tons of gas burned

Russian shelling on July 16 caused a large-scale fire at a gas distribution station near the border with Romania. The strike on the facility of Ukraine’s gas transportation system occurred on the territory of the Staronekrasiv village council of the Izmail district of the Odessa region.

This was reported by the State Environmental Inspectorate of the South-Western District and the head of the Izmail district military administration Rodion Abashev.

As a result of the fire, 1,698 tons of liquefied gas burned. Almost 5,900 tons of pollutants were released into the air, of which over 5,800 tons were carbon dioxide.

The amount of environmental damage caused by air pollution alone was estimated at almost 125 million hryvnias. The data has already been transferred to the Operational Headquarters of the State Environmental Inspectorate for inclusion in the register of environmental damage caused by Russia’s armed aggression.

The fire was extinguished by rescuers, and there were no casualties.
